Editorial Policy & Review Process
Our Commitment to Accuracy
FitnessProGuide publishes free fitness calculators for informational purposes. Because our tools are used by real people making real decisions about nutrition, training, and body composition, we hold ourselves to a rigorous standard of scientific accuracy. This page explains exactly how we source, build, and review every tool on the platform.
How We Select Formulas
- 1
Every formula used on FitnessProGuide is sourced from a peer-reviewed publication, a recognized health authority (WHO, CDC, ACSM, ISSN, ACOG, NIH), or an established clinical methodology with documented validation.
- 2
Where multiple validated formulas exist for the same metric (e.g. BMR estimation has Mifflin-St Jeor, Harris-Benedict, and Katch-McArdle), we select the formula with the strongest current validation evidence and note the alternatives on the page.
- 3
Every formula is cited at the bottom of its calculator page with the full academic reference so users can verify the source independently.
Our Review Process
Step 1 - Tool Development
James Mitchell (Founder) researches the formula, implements the calculator, and writes the supporting explanatory content. All source citations are included at this stage.
Step 2 - Expert Review
Content covering nutrition, body composition, caloric needs, and health-related metrics is reviewed by our Nutrition Reviewer Linda Murray, RNT (Registered Nutritional Therapist) before publication. The reviewer checks formula accuracy, validates result interpretation guidance, and flags any clinical concerns.
Step 3 - Update Cycle
Calculator pages are reviewed for update whenever: (a) new research supersedes the formula used, (b) an official health body updates its guidelines, or (c) a significant error is reported by a user. Each page displays the date it was last reviewed.
Our Limits
FitnessProGuide calculators are tools for general information. They do not:
- Diagnose any medical condition
- Replace advice from a licensed healthcare professional
- Account for individual medical histories, medications, or clinical conditions
- Provide precise measurements - all results are estimates based on population formulas
We include a medical disclaimer on every calculator page and encourage users to work with a doctor, registered dietitian, or certified trainer for personalized health guidance.
